Policies

We want to create a place for developers to discuss freely.  Therefore, we ask all of our members and attendees to our events to adhere to these policies.

IGDA-DC decorum statement:

IGDA-DC members and event participants are expected to treat each other, our hosts, guest speakers, and unaffiliated onlookers with respect and patience. At meetings and events, anyone may choose not to answer any question put to them, whether by a speaker or an audience member. As we are a place for discussion, any disruption that prevents participants from expressing themselves in an open environment will not be tolerated.

IGDA-DC Harassment Policy:

IGDA-DC is dedicated to providing a harassment-free environment for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any event, including talks, unless specifically approved by the IGDA-DC Board in advance. Participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event without a refund at the discretion of the event organizers.

Harassment includes verbal comments that reinforce social structures of domination related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Any IGDA-DC members who participate in meetups, expo booths, conferences, or similar activities in affiliation with IGDA-DC are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, exhibitors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material without advance permission from the IGDA DC Board. Booth staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualized environment. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the IGDA-DC Board may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender, expelling them from the event with no refund, and alerting authorities.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, contact a member of the IGDA-DC Board or the IGDA-DC event organizer as soon as possible. Event organizer/staff can be identified by special name badges and are available by email at IGDA.DC@gmail.com. The IGDA-DC Board will help participants contact security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your participation.
